The EFC Server PC supports continuous
Director monitoring, logging, and alert-
ing; centralizes log files, configuration
databases and firmware distribution;
and supports centralized “call-home,”
e-mail, service and support operations.
As many as 48 Directors can be man-
aged from a single server, and up to four
concurrent users can access the EFC
Server.
Ethernet hub
A 24-port Ethernet hub (included and
located in the McDATA FC-512 Cabinet)
supports the two connections required
by the high-availability function in the
Intrepid 6064 Director. This hub also
supports multiple McDATA Directors and
Switches multiple Directors. One LAN
connection is required for each control
processor card in the Director.
Enterprise Fabric Connectivity
Manager software
The EFC Manager application is a Java-
based graphical user interface (GUI)
that provides a common and consis-
tent management interface to the EFC
Product Manager. The EFC Manager
can run locally on the EFC Server
platform or remotely on any network-
attached workstation in the enterprise.
The EFC Manager supports:
•
Access security with passwords, admin-
istration of valid users, user rights and
remote access restrictions
•
Enterprise management with a product
view showing the high-level status of
all managed Directors and Switches
•
Scalability with the capability to add,
remove or modify Directors
and Switches
•
Traceability with audit logging and
sessions status
prise Operation System (E/OS) 5.0,
provides hardware enforced WWN
and port zoning. SANtegrity Secure
Management Zone (SMZ) secures
the management access to local and
remote SAN devices over a secure
connection. SANtegrity Binding, a sepa-
rately priced feature, creates multiple
layers of access control including port,
switch and fabric binding. SANtegrity
Binding essentially locks down the
fabric so the appropriate devices are
connected in the manner you defined
and not changed by accidental or unau-
thorized access to the fabric.
FICON Management Server and
FICON Cascading
FICON In-Band Management Server
supports management of the Intrepid
6064 Director by System Automation for
zOS or OS/390 and zSeries 900 servers.
This type of dynamic in-band manage-
ment is similarly provided by IBM 9032
ESCON Directors. System Automation
for OS/390 can now concurrently man-
age IBM 9032 ESCON directors as well
as McDATA FICON Directors. McDATA
SANtegrity Binding feature is required
for cascading between two Directors for
FICON protocol applications.
Open System Management Software
Open System Management Software
(OSMS) is an ANSI (American National
Standards Institute) based feature that
supports third-party SAN management
software from vendors such as VERITAS,
Tivoli or BMC. OSMS extends the switch’s
capability to include in-band manage-
ment by an open systems host-based
application. OSMS allows the Fabric
Switch and devices attached to it to be
“discovered” or seen in a fabric through
a framework software application.
Enterprise Fabric Connectivity Product
Manager software
The EFC Product Manager application
provides the user interface for each
Director. You can open individual EFC
Product Managers through icons in the
EFC Manager product view. The EFC
Product Manager provides:
•
A user-friendly interface with graphical
displays of the Director and its compo-
nents
•
Centralized configuration management
and control of all operating parameters
•
Real-time interactive display of opera-
tional status and statistical performance
information
•
Automatic audit logging of all system
events, configuration changes and hard-
ware upgrades
•
Serviceability with access to all mainte-
nance functions, such as diagnostics and
firmware updates
•
Proactive notification of events with auto-
matic “call home” alerts or e-mail to a
designated service center when
service is required
Open Trunking software is designed to
optimize the total throughput between
two switches by redirecting traffic from
high utilization links to links with avail-
able bandwidth. Open Trunking helps
continuously monitor loads on all links,
detect congestion, and balance traf-
fic across available Inter-Switch Links
(ISLs) without operator interaction.
Based on constant traffic monitoring,
Open Trunking acts to help improve
throughput and reroute traffic efficiently.
